2024 Sarasota County Elections

Review the information below to prepare for the coming 2024 election cycle.

NOTE: Florida is a closed primary state. This means only voters who are registered members of political parties may vote for respective party candidates or nominees in a primary election, including the Presidential Preference Primary. A person can register with a party or change his or her party affiliation any time, but to vote for a party candidate in a primary election, one must be registered with the party 29 days before an election. Register to Vote / Change Party Affiliation
The deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation for the Primary Election is Monday, July 22. Learn more by visiting our Register to Vote or Update Voter Information pages.

Vote By Mail (Absentee)
The deadline to request a vote-by-mail (absentee) ballot be mailed to you is Thursday, August 8 at 5 p.m. Learn more and submit a request by visiting our Vote by Mail page.

Returning Your Vote-by-Mail Ballot
You may return your vote-by-mail ballot by mail or in person. If returning by mail, the U.S. Postal Service suggests mailing your vote-by-mail ballot no later than Tuesday, August 13 (one week prior to Election Day).

Dropping Off Your Vote-by-Mail Ballot
You may drop off your ballot at a secure ballot intake station inside any Sarasota County elections office:
  • July 5 - August 20
  • Regular business hours: 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday
  • Weekends during early voting: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., August 10-11 and August 17-18
  • Election day: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 20

You may also drop off your ballot at a secure ballot intake station inside any early voting location:
  • August 10 - 18, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily

Vote Early (In Person)
In-person early voting for the Primary Election is Saturday, August 10 - Sunday, August 18, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily (including weekends). Visit our Early Voting page for a list of locations and addresses.

Vote on Election Day
Election Day is Tuesday, August 20. Polls are open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Visit our Election Day Voting page for a list of accepted forms of ID and other useful information. Remember, if you plan to vote on Election Day, you must vote at your assigned polling location. Use the My Voter Status tool to look up your Election Day polling location.

Temporary Polling Place Changes
If your polling place has been temporarily moved, our office will notify you by mail and provide the name and location of your new temporary polling place. We will also list any polling place changes here. Please check back frequently for updates.

Vote Early (In Person)
In-person early voting for the General Election is Monday, October 21 - Sunday, November 3, 8:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. daily (including weekends). A list of locations and addresses will be posted on our Early Voting page prior to the election.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. Polls are open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Visit our Election Day Voting page for a list of accepted forms of ID and other useful information.
