RINO politicians in Florida tried to bankrupt the state.
But Ron DeSantis told them “no” and saved Florida’s economy from disaster.
Now Florida’s economy is booming, and the RINOs and Democrats have suffered another defeat.
Florida is a Republican state. But like so many Republican states, some of the “Republicans” in the Legislature are not very committed to passing good conservative policy.
Some Republicans in the Florida legislature decided to push a bill, Senate Bill 620, that was written by lobbyists and special interests.
This bill would have made it easier to file frivolous lawsuits against local municipalities, putting taxpayers on the hook for up to $900 million every year.
According to an editorial from the Miami Herald, “This ‘pro-business’ legislation was so vague it would open the floodgates for frivolous lawsuits – a consequence DeSantis hinted at in his veto message. Local governments could be on the hook for up to $900 million annually, potentially driving taxes up for citizens and the same businesses the bill was supposed to protect, according to Florida TaxWatch.”
Go figure – a bunch of RINO legislators causing taxes to rise for ordinary people in order to protect special interests.
Luckily, Ron DeSantis was there to put a stop to this nonsense.
The editorial continued, “In his latest round of vetoes last week, DeSantis sounded the death knell for another priority of legislative leaders. It was a win for a governor establishing himself as the omnipresent figure in state politics. It was also a win for taxpayers and local governments at risk of paying for expensive litigation.”
This is not the first time DeSantis has taken on squishy RINO “Republicans” in the state legislature.
“Earlier this year, (Senate President Wilton Simpson) and the House speaker balked at DeSantis’ attempt to force them to pass a congressional redistricting map that favored Republicans. DeSantis vetoed the map lawmakers approved, forcing them to go back to Tallahassee to approve his plan. Politico reported in February that tensions were high between DeSantis and Simpson over the Senate’s reluctance to pass the governor’s high-profile priorities.”
DeSantis’s willingness to take on RINO members of his own party is an encouraging sign for someone who is increasingly becoming the national standard-bearer for the conservative movement and the Republican Party.
And his courageous approach is paying dividends for him. He is beating his Democrat opponent, former Gov. Charlie Crist, by almost 9 points in the Real Clear Politics polling average.
This is almost 6 points more than the 3-point margin that Trump won Florida by.
Furthermore, in the latest betting odds on PredictIt, DeSantis is the favorite to win the 2024 GOP nomination by over 10 percentage points.
And in a new poll out of New Hampshire, a state that went Democrat in 2020, DeSantis has cruised to a lead over Joe Biden in a hypothetical poll of 2024.
The days of squishy weak-kneed Republicans like John McCain and Mitt Romney are over.
The new standard-bearers for the Republican Party are fighters like Ron DeSantis who are willing to face the Left head-on and defeat them.
